William G and David J take custody of a Henry in 1857

Wayne County, NC - Guardian Bonds, 1857-1867                              ~~~~~~~~~~  Guardian – One who has the legal authority and duty to care for the  person or the property (or both) of an individual who, because of age,  insufficient understanding, or lack of self-control, is considered by  law or court action to be incapable of managing his or her own affairs.  Guardian ad litem – A special guardian appointed by the court to defend  the rights of an underage party to a lawsuit.  Guardian by Election – A guardian chosen by a minor fourteen or older,  charged with care and management of the estate and person of a ward.  Guardian, Natural – The father, or at his death, the mother, of a  minor. Natural guardianship extends only to the person of an infant,  although the court may appoint the natural guardian to manage the  minor’s estate as well.  Guardian, Testamentary – One appointed by the will of a minor’s natural  guardian and charged with the care of both the estate and person of the  ward.  Ward – A person under the care of a guardian. William G. Broadhurst buried at Seven Springs Methodist Church

Seven Springs Methodist Church is located on a hill over  looking the village. In 1874 a Presbyterian Church named White Hall was built by William B. Whitfield, a  descendant of William Whitfield, II on or near the site of  William Whitfield, II's home.  In 1940, the church was  traded to the Methodist. During the years a large cemetery has formed near the church.

Henry Rodgers becomes Henry Broadhurst in 1827, Duplin Co.

Duplin County, NC - Henry Rogers - Act to Legitimate, 1827                       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  An Act to alter the name of Henry Rogers, of Duplin county, and  to legitimate him  Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this act, Henry Rogers, of the county of Duplin, the illegitimate son of William Broadhurst, by his present wife, be, and he is hereby legitimated by the name of Henry Broadhurst; and by the name shall sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded; and shall be capable of taking property both by descent and distribution, in as full and ample a manner as though he were born in lawful wedlock. Charles Sloan Broadhurst death certificate

Here is the Death certificate for Charles Sloan Broadhurst (b 22 March, 1886) who married Margaret Ann Whitaker (b. 10 March 1887) and had a daughter named Nancy Lee Broadhurst on July 12, 1912. He is the brother of my Great Grandfather, Jack Johnston Broadhurst (b. 14 February 1873).
